Will You Finish? 4 Beliefs You Need to Finish Your Dissertation.
You’re smart.
You’ve made it into a doctoral program.
Beasted coursework... albeit some days it got a bit rough.
You may even have some publications and presented at all the conferences.
So, why can’t you figure out this dissertation thing?
The thing no one tells you is that your confusion or lack of process is not entirely your fault. Think about it...your courses may have helped you think about potential research topics.
You even had to write a research paper or two.
Have you ever had to plan and execute an ENTIRE project on your own from start to finish?
No!
So, why is it reasonable that you would know exactly what to do now?
That’s why I started this business. For people looking for a lifeline in this dissertation process.
I can definitely show you exactly what you need to do to complete your dissertation.
However, there are a few things that you need to do first.
There are some things that are your responsibility and in your control right now that you are putting off.
These things will definitely continue to stall you.
And that’s what I’m going to share with you.
4 Mindset Shifts You Need To Finish Your Dissertation
You already possess everything you need to complete this project.
I believe that you know 80% of what you need to know in order to complete your dissertation. I also believe that you could have a complete draft in a matter of days, not months.
That voice that is in your mind right now, calling this some bullshit. That’s called a limiting mindset. You are holding yourself back from making some serious progress.
Notice I said a complete draft.
I didn’t say a perfect draft.
Perfection is causing you to say that progress is a waste of time.
That taking little steps “is not enough”.
So, instead, you’ve opted to do nothing. And weeks later, you have nothing to show for it. Or you say “I haven’t read enough” or “I don’t know enough”. And I’m saying that it is more entertaining for you to indulge in these excuses then it is to believe in yourself and in your abilities.
You have something that you NEED to share with the world.
There is a reason that you enrolled in a doctoral program.
There is a reason that you made it through coursework and are ready to write your dissertation.
Maybe you’re buying into the limiting belief that you and what you have to say is not good enough.
In order to speak truth to power, you need the courage to follow through with your dissertation. I believe you have something that the world needs to hear and know. And if you don’t say it, you are robbing the world.
Think about the writers whom you admire, what if they never decided to release their work into the world? What if they would have said, “Oh, someone else will/should do it.” Where would we all be? Someone is waiting for your dissertation to help them know that they are not alone.
The dissertation process doesn’t have to come at the price of your health and wellbeing.
The long hours, forgetting to eat, and not talking to loved ones, will begin to catch up with you. The frequent trips to the health clinic and the cabinet full of Zzzquil is robbing you of your most prized possession, your health.
There is a way to do this life without costing you your health and wellbeing. The solution is as simple as having a plan and following through with it. We get so wrapped up in the drama of our minds. “Should I do this?” “But what if I did it this way?” “How do I work smarter?” “How do I make this not take so long?”
This drama keeps you stuck in overwhelm. It doesn’t have to be this way.
You have to make the commitment that you will do what it takes to see this through to the end.
What does commitment mean to you?
For me, it means showing up on a consistent basis. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have everything completed. You just have to show up.
Once you are able to show up for yourself consistently, you will have the encouragement and momentum to do more. But how can you get to the finish line when you won’t even start the race?
You know enough. You have enough. You are enough.
